Mary Lin was born on August 26, 1935 in Ransom, IL to the late Ival Hagi and Mildred Eggleston Hagi Greener and step-daughter to the late Edward Greener. She was raised in Streator, IL and graduated from Streator High School in 1953. She attended the University of Illinois and graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1957 with a degree in Education.
